バーゼル音楽院で古楽器を学ぶ3人により2010年秋に結成される。アンサンブル名の由来はJ. ハイドンが使えたエステルハーズィ宮と深いかかわりがあった楽器製作家のシュタットルマン一族の楽器、あるいはそのコピー楽器を結成時に各メンバーが音楽院より貸与されていたことによる。以来バーゼルを中心に演奏活動を行う。2015年1月に日本・スイス国交樹立150周年記念行事の一環として、バーゼル音楽院協力のもと、全国6か所にて来日公演を行う。レパートリーは J. ハイドンのバリトン・トリオ作品を中心に、失われた作品の復元、ハイドンと同時代の知られざる作曲家たちによる音楽、さらには当時の流儀による即興演奏にまで及ぶ。2016年からは東京・雑司ヶ谷本浄寺「拝鈍亭」(楽長：鈴木秀美）のレジデンスアーティストとして J. ハイドン作曲のバリトン・トリオ全曲演奏プロジェクト「ニコラウスの館」を年2回のペースで開催中。2021年にはトリオ結成10周年を記念して再び全国5か所での日本公演を行い、好評を博す。

Trio Stadlmann was formed in 2010 by Ryosuke Sakamoto, Sonoko Asabuki and Shuko Sugama studying period instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, in Basel, Switzerland. At the time the Academy had lent each member an original or a copy of an instrument by the Stadlmanns, a family of instrument makers that maintained a close relationship with the Estherházy court where Joseph Haydn served, and this was the source of inspiration for the Trio’s name. Since their beginnings the ensemble has been based in Basel. In 2015, as part of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland, Trio Stadlmann performed in 6 locations with the cooperation of the Basel Music Academy. Their repertoire explores J. Haydn’s baryton trios (including reconstructions of his lost works), music by several unknown composers contemporary to Haydn, and even improvisational performance in the classical style. From 2016 Trio Stadlmann was appointed as a residence artist at Zoshigaya Haydnsaal in Honjoji Temple in Tokyo, where they started the Baryton-Trio cycles twice a year with the goal of performing all the Baryton Trio work of Haydn. In 2021 they celebrated the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the group, undertaking a very well-received concert tour of Japan.
